theres nothing BBQ and Beer can't solve.
if you look at my earlier post, you can see that the WRT associates to the
foreign AP but getting a DHCP lease is the problem. Now that I think about
it more, if eth0 and eth1 are bridged, there shouldnt be any need to get a
DHCP lease for the client mode WRT.
For those with a WRT who want to try this, this is as far as I've got:
(set wireless client mode in HTML interface)
root$ wl join NETGEAR
(or whatever AP is nearby. use 'wl scan' then 'wl scanresults' to see
whats in the area)
root$ wl status
(to verify that you are associated)
from this point a box with ethernet into the WRT should be able to do a
DHCP request and get a DHCP lease from the foreign AP.
I'm not sure if the WRT mangles the MAC address of outbound packets.
Hopefully it does not.
